French African Sculpture
A large carved mahogany French African Sculpture circa 1950.
I found this carving on my last visit to France and assumed it was African. After speaking to a colleagues who is an expert of African art am now fairly certain that it is not a traditional African design.
However it shows strong African influences as well as European Abstract form and could well have been by a French African or French artist inspired by African art.
The patina and age related cracks to the mahogany would put it around 1950 or before.
It measures 57 cm high.
